One in eight women will hear the life changing words “You have breast cancer.” After the diagnosis those women will then share that news with their family, friends, and co-workers. Most will go on to have surgery and treatment. The fight for their health and life will begin. Thankfully with the research and advances in technology many will become survivors. They may be left with physical and emotional scars but they will survive. Others will lose that fight. A husband will lose his wife, a child will lose their mother and many people will lose their friend. It will be a devastating loss. That is why we at Flash Foods joined the fight against breast cancer. We feel a responsibility to do our part and ensure the advancements in research and technology continue. Thanks to our wonderful customers we were able to raise $18,719 to be donated to Breast Cancer Research!

We are excited to have created a partnership with three Georgia based Susan G. Komen affiliates,Komen Greater Atlanta,Komen Coastal Georgia, and Komen Central Georgia as well as one Florida affiliate Komen North Florida. This is our first year working with these dedicated organizations. During the month of October customers who shopped at Flash Foods had the option to donate $1 of their Flash Cash when making a purchase. All of the money raised during the month of October was donated to these four organizations. Our partnership with these affiliates ensures that the money raised stays in our local communities. Each affiliate operates as an individual corporation and spends the funds raised to help the women in the counties they serve to detect and survive breast cancer. Komen Greater Atlanta has raised more than $35 million since its inception in 1991. Formed in 1999, Komen Central Georgia serves eight counties including: Baldwin, Bibb, Crawford, Houston, Jones, Monroe, Peach and Twiggs. Komen Coastal Georgia has contributed over $2.3 million to date and serves Bryan, Bulloch, Camden, Chatham, Effingham, Glynn, Liberty, Long and McIntosh counties. The official North Florida Affiliate of Susan G. Komen serves Baker, Clay, Duval, Nassau and St. Johns in Florida. Flash Foods will donate $8,327 to Komen Coastal Georgia, $7,428 to Komen Central Georgia, $1,092 to Komen Greater Atlanta and $1,872.

The Susan G. Komen organization was created by Nancy G. Brinker, who lost her sister, Susan G. Komen to breast cancer. Since its inception in 1982, the Susan G. Komen organization has invested over $1 billion in an effort to find a cure for breast cancer. Komen’s promise is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cure. We are proud to walk alongside the national organization, specifically the local affiliates of Georgia and North Florida and contribute to finding a cure. Your single donation may be small but together we were able to have a large impact. We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to those of you who made donations in support of the fight against Breast Cancer.
